VOLUNTEER COMMITTEE CHAIR SUCCESSION
The formality of the committee executive succession process may vary depending on the committee. Regardless of structure, effective transitions rely on open communication and collaboration among the Committee Chair, Director Liaison, and Staff Liaison to ensure leadership continuity and ongoing committee effectiveness. Committee Chair Succession has two components that need to be considered. I. Selection of the Second Vice Chair II. Recommendation to the Board for Committee Chair SELECTION OF THE SECOND VICE CHAIR The selection of the Second Vice Chair is intended to be a collaborative process with the input of the Chair, Director Liaison and the Staff Liaison.
RECOMMENDATION TO THE BOARD FOR COMMITTEE CHAIR
The approval of Committee Chairs is ultimately the responsibility of the Board. The Chair, Director Liaison and Staff Liaison are responsible for making the recommendation to the Board. It should be noted that while the Second Vice-Chair role is generally intended as part of a succession plan toward the Chair position, this progression is performance-based and not guaranteed.
CONFLICTS OF INTEREST – COMMITTEE ROLES
Perceived conflicts of interest related to the fulfillment of any role on a committee, including the leadership roles, should be brought to the attention of the Corporate Secretary and/or the Chair of Governance & People Committee for assessment and guidance.
